Ed McLaughlin appointed to NCAA D1 Council & Women D1 Oversight Committee.

McLaughlin has led the VCU athletics department since 2012. His duties as an NCAA Divison 1 Council member will consist of being responsible for the day-to-day decision-making for Division I. Every conference is represented on the council, and he will serve a four-year term through 2028. McLaughlin will also be a part of the Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee. His duties on the oversight committee include ensuring appropriate oversight of the sport, both regular and postseason and will work to enhance the student-athlete experience. Additionally, McLaughlin and the committee are responsible for reviewing the qualifications and/or selection procedures for the NCAA Tournament and other issues related to the championship administration.


McLaughlin said, "I look forward to working with these critical leadership groups over the next four years." "The Division I Council will shape the future of college athletics as we move through the most turbulent times in our history. I feel very fortunate to have a role to play as I represent the elite basketball-centric school voice in creating a new Division I model."


McLaughlin, who just completed a four-year term on the NCAA Nominating Committee, also serves as Vice president for Division 1-AAA schools within the NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. McLaughlin, NACDA's 2017 Division I-AAA Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year, served as the Atlantic 10 Council of Athletic Directors (2016-2018) & Chairman of the A-10 Finance Committee from 2014-2016.
