(RICHMOND, VA) VCU Women's Rams defeated the La Salle Explorers 66-50 to capture their 16th win and remain undefeated at the Siegel Center this season. Timaya Lewis-Eutsey led VCU with a career-high 22 points & 11 rebounds, while Makayla Miller led La Salle with 16 points.
The Explorers jumped to an early lead as Makayla Miller on a 3-point play (FG followed by free throw) in the first 4 seconds to give La Salle a 3-0 lead. Mykel Parham & Timaya Lewis-Eutsey's field goals put the Rams up 4-3. The Explorers had their biggest lead as they led by 6 (15-9, 1:14 remaining 1st quarter). Grace Hutson's 3-pointer & Timaya Lewis-Eutsey’s FG in the final minute of the 1st quarter reduced La Salle’s lead to 1 (15-14) at the end of the 1st quarter.
Lucia Sotelo connected on 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game 15-15 to start the 2nd quarter. Amber Bullard's layup put the Explorers up 21-19. Mary-Anna Asare's jumper put the Rams up by 1 point (24-23, 2:38 remaining). The Explorers score 5 points in the final minutes to take a 28-24 lead going into halftime.
The Explorers added to their lead to start the 3rd quarter. Sarah Te-Biasu was the story in the 3rd quarter as she scored 13 points in the 3rd quarter. Sarah’s 3-pointer with 6:32 remaining in the 3rd quarter gave the Rams a 35-32 lead. The Rams expanded the lead to 13 (50-37, .35 remaining) as Mykel Parham's layup ended the 3rd quarter on an 8-0 run.
The Rams had their biggest lead as they led by 17 points (56-39, 8:28 remaining). VCU held their double-digit lead during the 4th quarter until Molly Masciantonio's layup with 3:24 remaining as the Explorers were within 9 points (59-50 VCU). The Rams scored the final 7 points & won 66-50.
